CFTC

The commodity futures trading Commission (CFTC) is an independent Agency of the U.S. government established in 1974 that regulates the U.S. derivatives markets, including futures, swaps, and certain types of options.

The commodity exchange act (CEA), 7 U. S. C. § 1 et seq.prohibits fraud in the trading of futures, swaps, and other derivative financial instruments. The CFTC's stated mission is to promote the integrity, sustainability, and dynamism of U.S. derivatives markets through robust regulation. After the financial crisis of 2007-2008 and since 2010, when the Dodd – Frank wall street reform and consumer protection act was passed, the CFTC has moved to provide greater transparency and reasonable regulation in the multi-billion-dollar swap market.
